Join your fellow Illini on May 27th for an evening with the Houston Ballet
On Thursday, May 27th at 7:30 p.m. in
honor of the centennial of the great Russian choreographer George
Balanchine, Houston Ballet will
pay tribute to his towering achievement with a mixed repertory program:
Apollo (Houston Ballet premier) Music by Igor Stravinsky
A seminal work in the history of twentieth century ballet, Apollo traces
the life of the god of music, poetry and prophecy.
La Valse Music by Maurice Ravel In La Valse, a beautiful
young girl at a glittering ball falls under the spell of a dark stranger
who lures her to her doom.
Theme and Variations Music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky Theme
and Variations is a tribute to the Russian Imperial ballet tradition
that Balanchine grew up with and pays obvious homage to Petipa's The
Sleeping Beauty.
